Farr’s Follow-Through to Success

 

The success of any leadership development process is defined by sustained positive results.  We all know that it is difficult to create change and it can be even harder to sustain.  Studies have even shown that programs that only provide one time core instruction with no follow through, only achieve lasting results about 20% of the time.  However, programs that have extensive follow-through achieve nearly 80% sustained results.

This is why we developed the Leadership Launch Point.  In addition to our extensive pre-program work, rich program content and unique learning tools we also provide follow-through for six months past the original program.  This continuing focus on seeing through the goals that were set provides the best opportunity to fully realize the results.

See below the six key components that help achieve lasting change, as provided by Farr's unique Leadership Launch Point.

Prior to the Leadership Development Experience:

• We provide the tools and context to create a specific Leadership Action Plan with the support of management, regardless of level.  This is the specific plan that lays the foundation for change.  Specific goals that can and will be measured, thus providing      feedback to reinforce the change that is needed.

• We administer a Leadership Impact Form (LIF) to managers, peers and reports. This anonymous feedback tool helps each person understand how people perceive their leadership qualities.  Thus it provides a base line to work from when developing specific skill areas to work on.

 

During the Leadership Experience:

• We provide one-on-one time with the workshop facilitator.  This will allow time to refine the specific goals to be achieved.  Being focused on specific goals is critical to creating lasting change. (Having this personal coaching time during the workshop is        critical and a key reason we keep our class sizes small)

 

Following the Leadership Experience:

• In the weeks that follow the workshop we send several leadership eResources which are designed just for participants. These learning tools provide additional insights to keep participants on track to meeting their goals as set forth in their Leadership Action Plan.

• Six weeks after the workshop there is a scheduled conference call with a Farr facilitator and the participants manager.  This time is dedicated to reviewing the Leadership Action Plan strategies and to help identify and/or remove possible barriers to its success.

• Six months after the program we re-administer the LIF assessment which provides before and after comparisons for self, subordinate, peer, and manager feedback about their leadership skills.  Using this second set of data will help identify where progress has been made and where work is still needed.

Below is a sample of one of the LIF forms which illustrates a before and after review from a participants manager.  There are four LIF reports in all that compare the before and after results from peers, subordinates and a self review as well.

The categories that are assessed are: Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, teamwork, initiative, creativity, adaptability, judgment, leadership and maturity.

It takes a profound experience, self-awareness and diligence to overcome the force of habit.
